Recap: A Grand Day for a Grand Opening

Cutting the ribbon with larger-than-life scissors
Cutting the ribbon with larger-than-life scissors

Last Saturday morning began as most Saturday mornings do for us: with our cute little 3 month old saying good morning. Then, a scramble to get breakfast and coffee rolling, everyone cleaned and dressed, and ready for naptime. Well, naptime for one of us, work for the rest.

But this Saturday, we scrambled extra hard; if we were eggs, we would have been unrecognizable from how scrambled we were.

Jacob drove us to the shop to start brewing coffee (on the way I spilled half of a large blueberry protein shake in the back seat, miraculously leaving my white linen shirt unscathed), while he continued on to Cullman to pick up our donut order. We ordered 100 donuts from Duchess Bakery (shoutout, they're the best donuts in Alabama as far as I can tell). 100 donuts! My goal was to have 100 people walk through the door. Well, we had leftovers. We brought the donuts to church on Sunday, and we still have leftovers. 100 donuts, it turns out, is a lot of donuts, even when you have hundreds of people to offer them to. Well, lesson learned (I say while gladly eating a donut as I write).

Okay, you didn't click on the blog to read about my donut miscalculation or shake-down in the car (see what I did there), so onto the smoother part of the morning.

The wonderful representatives from the Cullman Area Chamber of Commerce arrived as we were finishing up our preparations. Soonafter, we had a crowd of church friends, local friends, and new friends filling our little shop.

Joey, president of the Chamber, opened up with a few words, then Jacob and I said a few words, and we all headed outside to cut the ribbon.

Big ribbon, and even bigger scissors! They were as big as I imagined! But even better, because they were so sturdy and real! Not what I expected.

At the count from 3 to 1, we snipped the giant ribbon with the giant scissors, and officially opened our doors.

We served everyone coffee and donuts and the feedback, as per usual, was fantastic. People are amazed at how smooth and enjoyable a cup of black coffee can be!

The quality of bean, roast profile, and the freshness (what we served had been roasted just days before), all contribute to an outstanding cup of coffee.

Our hope for the Tasting Room is that it will be a bridge for our local community into the world of specialty coffee. With each bag we roast and cup we serve, our aim is to provide an exceptional experience at an affordable price.

If you live in the area, we hope to see you soon at the Tasting Room! We will be open every Thursday morning from 7:00-11:00. We will have a new menu of Single Origins, exclusive to the Tasting Room, available each month!

You can also select "Local Pickup" now as a shipping option, and pick your coffee up on Thursday mornings at the shop.

It's an exciting new chapter! Thank you so much for supporting us-- we never would have pressed forward without all the encouragement and great feedback.

Until my next update, cheers and I hope you enjoy some great coffee today.
